Apple Pie French Toast Casserole

Ingredients

  • 12 Nature’s Own Perfectly Crafted Brioche Style Butter Rolls

  • 3 green apples, peeled and diced

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • Lemon juice

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • 8 large eggs

  • 1½ cups half & half

  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Heaping ¼ teaspoon salt

  • Confectioners’ sugar or maple syrup (or both) for serving

 
 

Directions:

  1. Grease 9 x 13 dish or similar casserole pan with butter or nonstick spray.

  2. Cut the rolls into about 1-inch cubes.

  3. In a large bowl, whisk eggs, half and half, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt. Toss roll cubes into the egg mixture and let them sit.

  4. Meanwhile, melt butter in a saucepan and add apples on medium. Cook for 5 minutes, then add brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice and cook for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool.

  5. Pour half the bread mixture evenly in the bottom of the casserole dish. Evenly layer the apple mixture on top of the bread, then add the remaining layer of the bread mixture.

  6. Place in the oven and cook for 30 minutes till golden brown and the middle is firm.

  7. Cut out squares for serving and sprinkle with confectioners’ sugar, maple syrup, or both.
